Opalite cab ~
Offered here is a unique cabochon of opalite, from the Brush-Wellman beryllium mine in Utah (now closed to any and all collecting). Sometimes known as bertrandite, Tiffany stone, ice cream opal, and even 'Purple Passion', no matter what you call it, it's certainly expressive stuff! I'm told this rare opalite gets its beautiful coloration from fluorite. This example has both light and dark shades of purple, hints of blue agate and pinkish flecks, with a craquelure patchwork adding extra character. It has a nicely rounded dome of nearly 7mm, a long designer drop shape, and a fine glossy polish both front and back.
Size: 52x23mm
Weight: approximately 56 carats
