Inferno agate cab ~
Offered here is a cabochon of inferno agate, interesting Mexican material offered by the miner at the Tucson shows a couple years back. I'm told this material comes from the Laguna agate claims, and am amazed by the many beautiful variations of its patterns. This example has beautiful fortification banding and a large bullseye (with parallax!) in pastel yellow, with crimson mosses at either end. The background agate is nicely translucent, though I neglected to take a backlit photo. It's gorgeous stuff; sure wish I had a lot more. Please note, this stone has a few typical veils, as well as a small area of pitting on the backside, but the dark line down one side is just an odd vein of matrix. It will be concealed by most any setting. The cab has a well rounded dome of 5mm, a versatile shape, and a slick glassy polish both front and back.
Size: 56x19mm
Weight: approximately 45 carats
