Ammonite cab suite ~
Offered here is trio of cabochons cut from a fossil ammonite, from Madagascar. The species is Cleoniceras madagascariense, and I'm told it lived hundreds of millions of years ago. These deep amber colored cabs have an amazing suture pattern of growth events which can be seen as white lines, roughly resembling the shape of oak leaves. Those interlocking sutures are thought to have allowed the living ammonite to withstand the immense pressure of the underwater depths. These three matching cabs are extra gemmy and translucent, with deep, rich coloration. No doubt they'll make fascinating pieces of jewelry! The largest stone has a high rounded dome of 7mm, while the smaller pair are 4+mm thick. Each of these cabs has a designer 'spearhead' shape, and a slick glossy polish both front and back.
Size: 46x22mm, pair: 26x12mm
Weight: approximately 52 carats total
