Cacoxenite in amethyst cab ~
Offered here is a cabochon of amethyst with inclusions of golden cacoxenite, a rarity cut from grand old Brazilian material. Technically, the inclusions are the mineral goethite, and I can truthfully tell you that those little spikes are the most amazingly bright golden color I've ever seen in rock! Their appearance is like spun gold, and as you can see, they look a lot like 'thorns', which are arranged mostly in a trio of offset rows. The backlit photo reveals that the translucent purple quartz has some attractive zoning, and some bits of pink lepidocrosite. There are several areas of the typical 'fairy frost' inclusions present, including tiny bits of rainbow-hued refractions in the center, but it's a terrific stone regardless of it's minor imperfections. The cab has a well rounded dome of nearly 5mm, a gracefully curved designer 'flame' shape, and a brilliantly glassy polish both front and back.
