Tahoma jasper cab ~
Offered here is a splendid cabochon of Tahoma jasper, from the slopes of Mt. Rainier in Washington state. The local American Indian name for that same mountain is Tahoma, which translates roughly to 'next to heaven', and it is considered to be a sacred place. So someone chose a great name for this terrific and very rare material! This cab is a nice example, with some small plumes and brecciated figures billowing out of the banded pattern, in subtle shades of light and dark slate blue to blue-gray. Black down the center, with a splash or two of golden yellow and brown. Great contrast here, and because it's a mixture of agate and jasper, there's more than a little translucence present too. This stone has next to none of the all too typical fractures, and is quite sound. It has a well rounded dome of 5mm, and a crisp designer shape that's polished both front and back.
Size: 54x15mm
Weight: approximately 43 carats
