Gold leaf jasper cab ~
Offered here is a cabochon of gold leaf jasper, recently brought in from Mexico, harvested near the famous Crown of Silver psilomelane digs. The pattern is a tapestry of small golden yellow plumes, each of which is fortified with bands of magenta and ochre. Interestingly, the plumes appear to also have a fine coating of psilomelane, adding dark silver metallics which are visible in hand. The camera's eye caught only a hint of them, which I attempted to illustrate in the last photo of the cab's backside. There are a few neat pools of bluish agate as well, and flecks of white. I particularly like the contrasting figures in this material, with the unusual combination of colors, and hope you do too. The stone has a rounded dome of 6mm, a bold designer 'chevron' shape, and a slick polish both front and back.
Size: 44x34mm
Weight: approximately 63 carats
