Petrified palm root cab ~
Offered here is an unusual collector's cabochon of petrified palm root, newly arrived GEM material from Sumatra. This outstanding fossil wood is a fascinating piece of the earth's natural history. This example has a wild pattern of tiny tube-like spots at one side, with several windblown bullseyes at the other side. The whole stone shows amazing grain patterns, some that's remarkably intricate. It has a degree of translucence present, mostly in the eye area; within the pools at their grayish-blue centers, you'll find some astonishingly detailed tube-like tendrils. Click the photos up to their larger size to see what I mean. Nice contrast in this beauty, very unique! No fossil collection is complete without a fine example of this amazing new palm root. But it ought to make a fabulous item of jewelry too. -smile- The cab has a well rounded dome of 6mm, a gracefully curved designer drop shape, and a brilliant polish both front and back.
