Silver in cobaltite cab ~
Offered here is a cabochon of native silver and cobaltite, from the Cobalt, Ontario, Canada mine. This is a collectibly rare material you definitely don't see everyday, one that's very difficult to find and expensive when you do. I'm told it has a high precious silver content, and certainly looks the part, being surprisingly heavy for its size. The silver just seems to blossom, like flowers perhaps, with a tiny dendrite in the center of each, as if they're alive and growing. The cab took an unbelievably shiny polish, and although the surface may appear bumpy in the photos, it is completely smooth. Very reflective and brilliant in the light, almost like chrome! I think this one's much more beautiful in hand, with the added appeal of scattered patches of creamy ivory white. Surely you'll find a special use for such a unique treasure. It has a nicely rounded dome of 7mm, a versatile designer shape, and a slick, shiny finish both front and back.
