Chopstick agate cab ~
Offered here is a cabochon of chopstick agate, from China's Gobi desert. This fascinating lattice agate material is one we snagged at last year's Tucson show, and it's been providing plenty of fun. This example has a nice contrast between the slate gray sticks against an ivory white background. It kind of reminds me of a tribal mask. The spaces between the lattice pattern are filled with white to pale bluish agate, some of which have sparkly drusy pockets. Character to spare! I think this new agate will make excellent jewelry, and hope you'll be encouraged to find out. The stone has a high rounded dome of 6mm, a designer 'almond' shape, and a fine glassy polish both front and back.
