Blue opal cab ~
Offered here is a cabochon of blue opal, from Peru. Prized for its gemmy blue coloration, this genuine Andean opal is now rather scarce in the marketplace, and what little rough might be found commands a very VERY steep price. Luckily, I still have some put away from "the old days" or I couldn't afford to offer any cabs. This example has gorgeous ocean blues included with cloudy bits of tan that seem to sprout a crop of spidery black dendrites. It should be equally beautiful in gold or silver jewelry, no doubt, or it would make a fine addition to any collection. The stone has a high rounded dome of 7mm, a versatile designer drop shape, and a totally glassy polish both front and back.
