Binghamite cab ~
Offered here is a designer cabochon of RARE binghamite, from Minnesota. Closely related kin to tigereye and silkstone, binghamite typically also displays a fine chatoyance. In fact, it's refered to as 'the American pietersite'. It's all but extinct nowadays, and I hear even the old mine dumps and tailings have been thoroughly picked over long ago. This collectible cab is an excellent example, with a satiny chatoyance that seems to roll across the stone, and deep red to burgundy coloration with a sprinkling of off-white quartz. The dark lines are actually shiny metallic hematite that don't reveal much of their true nature in the photos. The stone has a rounded dome of 5mm, and a versatile designer shape, highly polished both front and back.
Size: 50x19mm
Weight: approximately 47 carats
