Pigeon blood agate cab ~
Offerered here is a cabochon of rare pigeon blood agate, also known as cornelian, from Utah. This material is so named for its resemblance to splashes or droplets of pigeon's blood. This extraordinarily fine example is rather unusual because, along with the typical dots and spots, it contains curls and folds of crimson that look a little like roses. There are a couple of tiny white tubes too. The stone has a great degree of translucence, as illustrated by the backlit photo. The cab is cut with a low rounded dome, a versatile designer shape, and a brilliantly glassy polish both front and back.
Size: 53x18mm
Weight: approximately 41 carats
