Royal imperial jasper cab ~
Offered here is a large and extraordinary cabochon of Imperial jasper, from Mexico. This old collectible 'ojitos' material is simply wonderful stuff, another member of the fine grained porcelain jasper family I love so much. (Ojitos means little eyes in Spanish.) This example features an amazing full orb pattern in appealing shades of sky blue and teal, and a thin edging of avocado green to gold, far less common than most other color combinations. There's also an unusual greenish-gold figure, shaped very much like a tiny parrot feather. The orbicular pattern fits the shape of the stone quite well, and the backside is beautiful too, so an open back setting would be just the thing. The cab has a low rounded dome, an elongated ovoid shape, and a super glassy polish both front and back.
