Red ribbon obsidian cab ~
Offered here is a cabochon of red ribbon obsidian, which hails from Glass Buttes in Oregon. This example has a trio of reddish flow bands, like slanted ribbons seen not quite on edge, affording a neat visual effect of depth. The photos don't show it well but the obsidian background is a translucent smoky gray color, which I attempted to illustrate in the backlit photo. The bands have a curious diagonal slash pattern to them, and gleam when held in the light at certain angles. The stone has a well rounded dome of 4mm, and a super slick polish both front and back.
