Opalite cab ~
Offered here is a unique cabochon of opalite, from the Brush-Wellman beryllium mine in Utah (now closed to any and all collecting). Sometimes known as bertrandite, Tiffany stone, ice cream opal, and even 'Purple Passion', no matter what you call it, it's certainly expressive stuff! I'm told this rare opalite gets its beautiful purple coloration from fluorite. This example has deep shades of purple accented by lilac veins so pale, they are almost a light pastel pink. There are also a reddish maroon veins, adding extra character. It has a graceful designer 'flame' shape, a nicely rounded dome of 5mm, and a fine glossy polish both front and back.
Size: 57x18mm
Weight: approximately 40 carats
