Dinosaur bone cab ~
Offered here is a cabochon of fossilized dinosaur bone, from Utah. This highly silicated material is many millions of years old, and it is a marvelous example of the natural preservation of our earth's ancient, extinct 'thunder lizards'. The cells in this fossil bone have been completely replaced with red agate, with a few in burnt yellow, and each is framed with a lattice-like network of tan and cream webbing. Those are the actual cell walls, and they're quite distinct here. Many of the agate cells show fortification bands, like tiny translucent agate nodules or thundereggs. This is an example of collectible gem bone, cut from my (shrinking) personal stash. The cab has a well rounded dome of 5.5mm, a crisp designer 'diamond' shape, brightly polished both front and back.
