Opalite cab ~
Offered here is a cabochon of opalite, from the Brush-Wellman beryllium mine in Utah. Sometimes known as bertrandite, Tiffany stone, ice cream opal, and 'Purple Passion', no matter what you call it, it's certainly gorgeous stuff! I'm told this rare opal gets its beautiful coloration from fluorite. This fine example has splashes of lovely purple with white and lavender, smoky mottling, and a dozen or so dots of purple that are particularly attractive. It has a low rounded dome of just under 5mm, a versatile shape, and a great glassy polish both front and back.
