Pietersite cab ~
Offered here is a splendid cabochon of top notch African pietersite. This example is truly a beauty, with silky swirls of chatoyance and a rather dark mysterious quality that I like. There are ribbons of bright golden yellow, and both light and dark blues, with greenish shades where the two hues blend; please be sure to click the pics to enlarge them to full size to view the details. I feel fortunate in the extreme that I still have a source for old stock pietersite like this, because the African dealer had nothing to compare this year in Tucson. I have to wonder if there is any of the good stuffleft to harvest. This stone has a high rounded dome of 7mm, a versatile designer shape, and a fine glassy polish both front and back. And considering how the cost of fine pietersite has sky-rocketed in recent years, my per carat price is a genuine bargain!
