brecciated mookaite ~
Offered here is a cabochon of brecciated mookaite, a fairly recent newcomer from Australia. This interesting material is very glassy by nature, quite different from mookaite. So to get the facts, I directed a query about its composition to one of the two mining partners involved. He said it's basically ALL opalite (radiolarite), and despite the clear webbing, it is not agatized to any extent. This example has criss-crossing translucent veining between the lovely yellow chiffon, ochre, white, red and pinkish pieces that compose the stone, giving it a fascinating dimension of depth. I think it's absolutely awesome stuff! There are a few natural voids present, but they seem to add rather than subtract from the appeal. Try some, you'll be well pleased! This cab has a well rounded dome of 5mm, a plump designer drop shape, and a slick glassy finish both front and back.
Size: 38x36mm
Weight: approximately 48 carats
