Hells Canyon petrified wood cab ~
Offered here is a cabochon of petrified wood, an unsual and rare form from Hell's Canyon near the Idaho/Oregon border. (You can read more about this material on my blog.) The species is said to be sequoia, showing fascinating wavy annual growth lines in a herringbone pattern. This example has great contrasting lines, rich coloration in deeper brown and sandalwood shades, and an amazing pattern of holes, which are lined with translucent quartz, milky agate, or (common) opal. They look like tiny geodes, and all show fortifications. Be sure to click to enlarge the photos to see the details. I'm no expert on pet wood, but this material seems opalized to some degree, and it certainly is GORGEOUS! This cab has a rounded dome of 5mm, a long designer 'spear' shape, and a slick glassy polish both front and back.
Size: 53x20mm
