Offered here is a cabochon of ruby in fuchsite, which originated in India. The attractive background of this stone, fuchsite (aka chromium muscovite), is sparkly because it contains flecks of mica that catch the light. The varied color in this example really makes the pinkish-magenta colored rubies stand out, each of which is edged with a deeper greenish-blue ring of kyanite. I was surprised to find this material finished so well, making it worthy of any type of jewelry you can dream up. The cab has a high rounded dome of 6.5mm, and a versatile 'flame' shape, polished front and back.
