Pyritized ammonite cab ~
Offered here is a cabochon of pyritized ammonite, from Russia. My cousin bought a few of these neat cabs in Tucson this year, cut cross sections of highly prized and extremely rare metallic fossil ammonites. I don't know the exact species, but they lived hundreds of millions of years ago. Virtually every last bit of the once living creature has been replaced with shiny metallic pyrite, and the naturally darkened central cavity is filled with tiny sparkling pyrite crystals. It has a brilliantly shiny mirror-like polish on both sides, 5mm thickness, and the back is flat for easy setting. Try one in your next project!
