petrified wood cab ~
Offered here is a LARGE collector's cabochon of petrified wood, an unsual and rare form from Hell's Canyon near the Idaho/Oregon border. (You can read more about this unique material on my blog.) It is said to be sequoia, showing a fascinating herringbone pattern of contrasting wavy lines, each representing a year's seasonal growth in the once-living tree. It has an astonishing display of agate holes filled with translucent milky or clear agate, or (common) opal. Many look a lot like tiny geodes, complete with fancy fortifications, in an assortment of wildly whimsical shapes. Be sure to click to enlarge the photos to see the details, especially the backlit pic. I'm no expert on pet wood, but this material seems opalized, and it certainly is GORGEOUS! Much moreso than flat photos could ever illustrate. This substantial cab has a well rounded dome of 6mm, a fat designer 'catseye' shape, and a slick glassy polish both front and back.
Size: 59x24mm
