Butterfly wing jasper cab ~
Offered here is an attractive cabochon of butterfly jasper, from Mexico. This long time favorite brecciated jasper (technically a rhyolite) is a much sought after classic, and a favorite in my studio. This stone is a delightful example of grand old material, with plenty of colofully varied figure, including an intriguing patch of smoky agate with some water-level lines and brecciated bits of confetti. A friend who saw it yesterday remarked that it looked to her like an snapshot of a stormy day at the ocean, with a frothy wave poised to crash onto the rocky shoreline. And I must say it really does! The odd lines (of the water) are either totally and naturally healed or simply part of the pattern, so you just can't go wrong with this beauty; it definitely won't disappoint! The cab has a low rounded dome of nearly 6mm, an elegant designer shape, and a smooth glassy polish both front and back.
