Hells Canyon petrified wood cab ~
Offered here is a cabochon, cut by Chris, of petrified wood, an unsual and rare form from Hell's Canyon near the Idaho/Oregon border. (Read more about it on my blog.) It is said to be sequoia, showing fascinating wavy annual growth lines, and so much more. This example has varying shades of rich, creamy beechnut to sandalwood coloration and a wild array of unfilled agate voids that penetrate the stone clear through. The ornate holes are edged with white translucent agate or common opal, as illustrated by the backlit photo. I'm no expert on pet wood, but this material seems opalized to some degree, and it certainly is GORGEOUS! This cab has a nicely rounded dome of 6mm, a designer 'pillow' shape, and a slick glassy polish both front and back.
