Dinosaur Bone cab ~
Offered here is a cabochon of fossilized dinosaur bone, from Utah. In this unusual example of fossil bone, most of the cells have been replaced with tan agate, but a few are blood red in color. The tan areas have nuances of shading, showing yellowish undertones in some places, accented by some interesting black webs that remind me of the roots of trees, oddly enough. Those are the actual cell walls, forever frozen in time. The rest of the webs are grayish and show some translucence, so please click to enlarge the pics to see the details. The cab has a low but nicely rounded dome of 5mm, a versatile 'leaf' shape, and an excellent glassy polish both front and back.
