Crinoid marble cab ~
Offered here is a cabochon of crinoid marble, ancient material found in China. This example is a crazy patchwork of figures in cream, gray and black, with a few in wine-red. The truly unique pattern is made up of the stems of fossilized plants called crinoids, which collected on the sea floor and were compressed into solid marble over millenia. Amazing stuff! No marble or fossil collection is complete without some crinoid marble, and this cab would be a fascinating centerpiece in any type of jewelry creation you can dream up. It has a very high rounded dome of nearly 7mm, and a fine glossy polish both front and back.
