Petrified palm root cab ~
Offered here is an unusual collector's cabochon of petrified palm root, newly arrived GEM material from Sumatra. This fossil wood is a fascinating piece of the earth's natural history. Here's an interesting detail: The fellow that found it believes that only the buried part of the palm tree was preserved to undergo the fossilization process, because none of the ancient trunks were found. I think it's absolutely gorgeous stuff! This example has a wild pattern of windblown eyes and an assortment of woodgrains in shades of creamy tan, gold, and peach with jet black. There are also small jagged pools of translucent blue agate, and an elongated eye in the black area. No fossil collection is complete without a nice example of this amazing new palm root! But it ought to make fabulous jewelry too. -smile- The cab has a rounded dome of 5mm, a designer 'leaf' shape, and a brilliant polish both front and back.
