Petrified palm wood cab ~
Offered here is a large cabochon of rare petrified palm wood, from Texas. This ancient fossil wood is said to be as much as 30 million years old, from the Oligocene epoch. It's a joy to work with, showing NONE of the typical pits and fractures this pet wood so often has. The once-living palm's speckled pattern is quite apparent here, with a feast of well-spaced brownish 'rods' that show up nicely against a gemmy agate background, the color of which is a little hard to pin down. Some parts look a bit bluish, while other areas have a yellow blush, and then there's that extra translucent doughnut, shown in the backlit photo... No pet wood collection is complete without an example of palm wood. The cab has a crisp designer shape, and a well rounded dome of 7mm, brilliantly polished both front and back.
