Blue opal cab ~
Offered here is a cabochon of blue opal, from Oregon's Succor Creek formation, at the edge of the Owyhee breaks. Even though it has no fire, I really hesitate to call it 'common opal', because it's certainly anything BUT common. It has a super-saturated blue hue that's to-die-for gemmy, with some subtle lighter clouds and streaks. No cracks! It's always surprising to see that this strongly colored stone is very translucent, even when indirectly backlit. And it's amazing to see how light passing through the stone transforms its blue hues so completely. It should be equally beautiful in gold or silver jewelry, no doubt, or it would make a fine addition to any collection. The stone has a well rounded dome of 5mm, an sweet designer shape, and a totally glassy polish both front and back.
Size: 51x16mm
Weight: approximately 28 carats
