Magnesite in jade cab ~
Offered here is a cabochon of black jade with magnetite, from California. I hear this great old time material can still be collected near Victorville, so I don't understand why it's so seldom seen. It's awesome stuff, with fascinating sprays of gun-metal gray magnetite against a background of deep dark green jade. The metallic sprays have an intricate crystalline structure that looks like brush strokes, and at some angles, they sparkle just a bit. The stone has a high rounded dome of 6mm, a fancy teardrop shape, and a gleaming polish both front and back.
