Opalite cab ~
Offered here is a unique cabochon of opalite, from the Brush-Wellman beryllium mine in Utah (now closed to any and all collecting). Sometimes known as bertrandite, Tiffany stone, ice cream opal, and even 'Purple Passion', no matter what you call it, it's certainly expressive stuff! I'm told this rare opalite gets its beautiful purple coloration from fluorite. This example has both light and dark shades of purple, accented by deep purple veins that are somewhat translucent. There is also a band of bluish agate going across the stone, adding extra character. It has a very high rounded dome of 8mm, and a fine glossy polish both front and back.
Size: 46x25mm
Weight: approximately 57 carats
