Variscite cab ~
Offered here is a cabochon of gemmy variscite, from China. This is the first example I've cut from this beautiful material, fresh from this year's Tucson shows. As the photos illustrate, it is entirely composed of translucent pools of minty green gel. The color is a bit darker than shown. Each pool is enclosed in light creamy tan webbing, contrasting strongly. The matrix spiderwebbing resembles a sponge with large holes, revealing interior depths. Amazing stuff! The cab has a nicely rounded dome of 5mm, and it is polished both front and back.
