Opalite cab ~
Offered here is a large, deluxe cabochon of opalite, from the Brush-Wellman beryllium mine in Utah, which is now closed to any and all collecting. Sometimes known as bertrandite, Tiffany stone, ice cream opal, and even 'Purple Passion', no matter what you call it, it's certainly gorgeous stuff! I'm told this rare opal gets its beautiful colors from fluorite. This fascinating example has purple and orangish shades, accented with black webbing, contrasting strongly against a background of creamy white to pastel lavender. There are also some pools and veins of blue agate, including one sealed pocket with tiny druzy sparkles. Boatloads of character in this artistic beauty! It has a rounded dome of 5mm, a crisp designer 'keystone' shape, and a fine glossy polish both front and back.
Size:55x25mm
Weight: approximately 46 carats
