Crown of Silver Psilomelane cab ~
Offered here is a truly remarkable cabochon of Crown Of Silver psilomelane, from Chihuahua, Mexico. This classic material is sometimes referred to as 'black malachite', though there's no real relationship. This beauty is loaded with both wide and fine bandings in sub-metallic black and shiny silver. Toward the larger end, there are some unusual plume-like figures, along with a neat patch of dark burnt reddish brown, adding much to the stone's visual impact and rarity. The reddish area is opaque, and looks to be a jasper/agate mixture. The stone is very highly reflective, making photography quite challenging, but the pics are an decent representation. This cab has a gracefully curved designer shape, a high rounded dome of 7+mm, and a slick glassy polish both front and back.
