astrophyllite cab ~
Offered here is a large cabochon of astrophyllite, from Russia. The rare titanium mineral in this stone takes the form of star-like needles in golden to golden brown. At certain angles, many of the blades reflect glints of bright gold, though the camera's eye failed to capture that well. This example has a terrific display of flashy needles, and came to me in this finished form in a trade with a Russian aquaintance. The stone has a well rounded dome of 6mm, a versatile designer shape, and a glossy polish on the front. The back is sanded smooth.
