charoite cab ~
Offered here is a cabochon of charoite, from Russia, purchased by my cousin directly from the importer. Charoite is a rare purple gem material found only at a single source, along the Charo River, located in a very remote area of East Central Siberia. This cab features a delightful crushed velvet sort of pattern with areas of excellent pearly chatoyance. This example has been backed with a super thin layer of black jade, for added strength. The stone has a well rounded dome of 5+mm, a softly curved designer 'flame' shape, and a slick glossy polish both front and back.
