Snake eyes agate cab ~
Offered here is a large cabochon of 'snake eyes agate', from Mexico. I don't rightly know if there's such a thing as oolitic agate, but I do believe the tightly packed little eyes (or eggs?) in this material are properly called oolites. The translucent background in which they float is definitely agate, with interesting fortifications, and a glittery druzy pocket. Some of the bullseyes have dark centers, as you can see from the photos, including a few pinpoint voids; what may not be apparent is the fascinating dimension of depth in the stone. Nearly all the orbs are ringed, and have an attractive peachy tint. Strange stuff, indeed, but it makes swell jewelry! The cab has a well rounded dome of 6mm, a bold designer shape, and a great glossy polish both front and back.
Size: 56x33mm
Weight: approximately 71 carats
