Malawi blue agate cab ~
Offered here is a large & delicious cabochon of Malawi blue agate, also known as blue chalcedony, from Africa. The price of rough material this nice has skyrocketed in recent years, but I'd buy it anyway, if only I could FIND any worthwhile! This example is prettier and a little more intense than shown, with lovely translucent blue coloration, some subtle bands, as well as some interesting dots and clouds here and there. The highly polished shape causes light to bounce around wonderfully in this stone, and at certain angles, it does appear to have some interesting adularescence. It's almost opalescent, and certainly very VERY gemmy! Like a lot of blue agates, this stone tends to be moody, appearing even more intense and deeper in color when viewed in low lighting. Rain loves this cab, so if you like it, grab it! It has a high rounded dome of 6+mm, a sweet designer 'chevron' shape, and a brilliant glassy polish both front and back.
