Carnelian cab ~
Offered here is a cabochon of gorgeous Oregon carnelian, also known as orange chalcedony. It features juicy translucent RED and butterscotch orange coloration, with an impressive display of the internal 'cornflakes' so sought after by collectors. I tried my best to capture the beautiful 'flakes inside this stone, but the saturated color tends to wash out such details. The stone is beautifully translucent, as illustrated by the backlit photo. I think it's nicer in hand than the photos show, and believe me, carnelian with this rich coloration is none too easy to come by these days! Many have color only on the outside of the rough pieces, in a thin layer of rind. But not this one! The cab has a well rounded dome of 5+mm, a whimsical stylized heart shape, and an excellent glassy polish, slick as can be, both front and back.
