Opalite cab ~
Offered here is an impressive cabochon of opalite, from the Brush-Wellman beryllium mine in Utah. Sometimes known as bertrandite, Tiffany stone, ice cream opal, and even 'Purple Passion', no matter what you call it, it's certainly gorgeous stuff! I'm told this rare opal gets its beautiful coloration from fluorite. I favor those like this one best, cut from the very heart of a choice nodule, with a brecciated sort of white lightning pattern framing the pretty purple and lavender hues. This example also has burnt orange, and some sparkly crystalline patches adding to the stone's unique character. No cracks or other flaws that I can find, it's all just gorgeous pattern! It has a low rounded dome of 4mm that's just right for this cab, a crisp designer 'keystone' shape, and a slick glassy polish both front and back.
