Horn Coral cab ~
Offered here is a magnificent cabochon of fossilized horn coral, from Utah. I've heard the old collecting site is closed, so that explains why the good stuff has become so difficult to obtain, and rather spendy too, these past years. Horn corals are actually ancient sea life, and you can clearly see the organic nature of this once-living coral in the highly translucent agate. It has the classic 'radiating spoke' figure, in rich reddish orange. A close look reveals it also has some neat fortifications and teensy bullseye and fortification patterns, as well as shallow pool of agate that includes tiny sparkles beneath the surface. Nicely translucent too, shown off in a good large sized designer 'teardrop' shape that's far more attractive than the usual boring rounds and ovals. Front and center for this one! The stone has a low rounded dome of 4+mm, and a slick glassy polish both front and back.
Size: 32x22mm
Weight: approximately 26 carats
