Opalite cab ~
Offered here is an impressive cabochon of opalite, from the Brush-Wellman beryllium mine in Utah. Sometimes known as bertrandite, Tiffany stone, ice cream opal, and even 'Purple Passion', no matter what you call it, it's certainly gorgeous stuff! I'm told this rare opal gets its beautiful coloration from fluorite. I favor those like this one best, cut from the very heart of a choice nodule, with a brecciated sort of pattern and the pretty purple, lavender and ivory hues. This example also has burnt orange, and some crystalline edging around one orange 'island' adding to the stone's unique character. It has a low rounded dome of 4mm that's just right for a stone of this size, a crisp designer shape, and a fine glossy polish both front and back.
Size:55x22mm
Weight: approximately 24 carats
