Dinosaur bone cab ~
Offered here is a cabochon of fossilized dinosaur bone, from Utah, cut by Christopher. This highly silicated material is many millions of years old, and it is a marvelous example of the natural preservation of our earth's ancient, extinct 'thunder lizards'. The cells in this fossil bone have been completely replaced with red and reddish orange agate, and each is framed with a lattice-like network of jet black webbing, with unusual silvery white areas. Those are the actual cell walls, and they're quite distinct here. A few cells show subtle fortifications, and one or two are yellow. Upon very close examination, this example does have some surface imperfections, but it's mighty impressive nonetheless. The cab has a generously high and well rounded dome of 6.5mm, and an elongated ovoid shape that's polished both front and back.
