Covellite cab ~
Offered here is LARGE cabochon of rare covellite, very special metallic copper ore, from the Leonard mine near Butte, Montana. This stone features the classic deep, rich cobalt blue coloration, with subtle moire-like threads of shiny metallic pyrite, and one splash showing a bit of pyrite's cubic crystalline habit. It also has several areas of the very desireable rosy-purple flash, although that phenomenon is only visible at certain angles. The second pic shows just a few hints of the cab's brilliant purple flash. In hand, you might be surprised by the cab's heft; it's amazingly heavy for its size. It will be grand in even the simplest of settings, no doubt, or it could be a fine centerpiece in your collection of ultra-rarities. It has a generously high rounded dome of 7mm, and despite some of the typical natural voids covellite so often has, it took a bright gleaming polish both front and back.
Size: 52x19mm
Weight: approximately 125 carats
