Turritella agate cab ~
Offered here is a fascinating cabochon of turritella agate, from Wyoming. This ancient fossilized material is stacked full of turritella shells, from which it takes its name. The many white shells are quite apparent in this nicely composed example, with the one large shell showing cells filled with pale bluish agate, as well as a pair of druzy pockets. Turritella agate was never a favorite of mine until not long ago, when a rockhound friend shared some of this great old solid stuff with me. It's a joy to work with, fine enough to take an excellent glassy shine. I'm sure you'll like it too, give it a try! The cab has a nicely rounded dome of 6mm, and a designer 'S' shape that's polished both front and back.
