Imperial cab ~
Offered here is an unusual cabochon of Imperial jasper, from Mexico. This old stock material is a member of the fine grained porcelain jasper family I always enjoy working with. This example is a study in light and dark shades of mauve to pink, displaying several classic patterns at once: Meandering ribbons, curtains, and even cloudy mosslike figures. The combination has a rather art nouveau quality, resembling ocean waves. The stone has a well rounded dome of nearly 6mm, and a gracefully curved designer shape that's polished to a glassy brilliance both front and back.
