Bruneau jasper cab ~
Offered here is a unique cabochon of Bruneau Canyon jasper, from Idaho. This example has an unusual pattern, with splotches of creamy orange against yellowish chiffon above the undulating waves. The stone shades progressively darker with each wave, ending in burnt orange. Neat little black dendrites at the pointed end too. I've never seen any other Bruneau jasper quite like this, have you?
Sadly, the best of this hard porcelain-like jasper is becoming alarmingly scarce and spendy these days, and the claim owner tells me the access route is extremely difficult terrain, very steep and rocky. And that's before he even gets down to the truly hard work of mining. Bruneau jasper remains a classic favorite, sought after by collectors and designers alike. The stone has a nicely rounded dome of 5mm, a designer 'almond' shape, and a brilliant polish both front and back.
