Sweetwater dendritic agate cab ~
Offered here is a very special cabochon of Sweetwater dendritic agate, from Wyoming. This remarkable stone has a fascinating display of delicate spidery dendrites in various shapes and sizes floating within the stone. They almost look like wispy black snowflakes, suspended in a background of lightly smoky translucent agate. Sweetwater agates have a fascinating history, which you can read up on here, (scroll about halfway down the page). They were plentiful, once upon a time, but are seldom seen these days. They are one of the few known agates that fluoresce in UV light, seeming to glow in brilliant greens. It's amazing to see! But I like these agates for their world-class dendritic habits. -smile- This cab has a nicely rounded dome of 5mm, a graceful designer 'drop' shape, and a brilliantly glassy 'wet ice' polish both front and back.
Size: 53x20mm
Weight: approximately 37 carats
