Nipomo marcasite agate cab ~
Offered here is a cabochon of rare Nipomo marcasite in agate, from that famous location in Central California. Years ago, I was told the area where this great old material was once collected now has condos built all over it, so that's it, folks. This example features pools pale bluish and pastel yellow agate between shiny metallic 'chromed islands' of bright marcasite. Plumes, actually, with oodles of gleam! Nipomo marcasite is an extremely challenging material to photograph because it's so highly reflective. I didn't do real well on these pics but you get the idea; it's a bit more brassy in hand. The cab has a high rounded dome of 6mm, a gracefully curved designer shape, and a bright gleaming polish both front and back.
